Richard leads GQ’s Family Team and has extensive experience across all areas of Family Law, with a particular focus on relationship and trust property disputes, estate litigation, care of children, guardianship, Oranga Tamariki, and family violence matters.
His knowledge across these areas allows him to provide pragmatic, tailored advice for clients navigating family law issues “from the cradle to the grave”. He regularly appears before the Family Court, High Court and has appeared as co-counsel in the Court of Appeal. Richard is also a Court appointed Lawyer for Child and Lawyer for Subject Person, regularly appearing in Court to represent the most vulnerable in our community.
Richard became a Partner of Govett Quilliam in June 2023, having joined the firm in July 2021. Since graduating from the University of Otago in 2014, Richard has practiced almost exclusively in family law, including time with a large family law team in Auckland.
Originally from the South Island, Richard is passionate about the outdoors, enjoys skiing and tramping, and has a love of music, particularly the guitar.
